This piece was born in the sixties with Danish origins and an Asian flair. I envisioned it sitting in the living room of a bachelor’s pad. I used zebra wood to capture a bit of that 60's vintage style. It is amazing how some materials can really capture an era. Like most my pieces, I wanted it to act as functional art but mostly I wanted it to be fun! I tried to rekindle that child like sense of curiosity, “I wonder what is in here…” or “What happens when I do this…” The latch I created for this piece was a direct mutation of the clasping latch on The Line’s. The "clasping latch" has been stylized over the years in different variations. I wanted to come up with something completely original something that was my own. It acts as the focal point of the piece, which is needed especially with symmetrical hardwood pieces such as this one. So I gave the latch a roundness that softens the sharp corners and the hard edges of the credenza. I had imagined it as a sun rising from the leg base binding the piece together. The doors were the first of the wrap around, which then evolved into the drawers of my future pieces. Ironically, this piece resides in a bachelor’s pad in San Luis Obispo that has been recently converted or upgraded into his family’s pad.
