The Torino

Type: Retro, Vintage Credenza
Materials: Plywood, Ipe and Birch
Dimensions: 76" x 36" x 29"
Inspiration: Prefab Cabin in Italy and the 1960’s

For some time now I have been collecting scraps of plywood from cabinet shops. I laminated several together and this was the outcome. The overall shape of this piece originated from a small modern prefab cabin that I saw in Italy. Any chance I get I like to add a little bit of vintage to my pieces. I think the drawers and the orange put a 60's touch to it. I would categorize this as retro modern furniture design. I had done my bathroom floor out of this plywood; it had orange walls, with ipe trims and base boards. I loved how all those colors and materials blended with each other. The bathroom had some stainless features as well…which topped things off perfectly. The stainless handle adds a different dimension to this piece. The orange sliding door with the fluted texture was done on the table saw. You can get details from a table saw that routers and shapers can't. The subtle radius on the drawers were also done on the table saw. This piece was displayed in a gallery and sold within the first week. It has a very happy home in the Central Coast of California.
